The Casey’s Legacy, Inc. team works tirelessly to help rescued dogs thrive and enjoy successful adoptions.

Our Mission…

Casey’s Legacy, Inc. serves as a much-needed step in the canine rescue adoption process. Our organization’s goal is to help ensure the successful rehoming of abandoned dogs. In our work to help rescue and shelter dogs have the best possible chance of survival, we focus on training, behavior modification and owner education.

Our Vision…

To partner with like-minded trainers and organizations to train abandoned dogs in an effort to improve these dogs’ chances in life.

Our Story…

Casey’s Legacy, Inc. was established as a nonprofit in 2019 through a concerted effort by several professional dog trainers who recognized the need for specific training and behavioral modification for dogs that find themselves in rescue or shelter situations. The organization is committed to helping rescued dogs have a better chance at successful adoption.

Just like people, no two dogs are exactly alike, so training should to be tailored to both the dog’s needs and the owner’s needs and capabilities.
— John Harvey, Casey's Legacy, Inc.

Casey

Casey came to our family in August of 2003. She was smart, driven and loving, all the things that make the German Shepherd breed so popular. She was the perfect fit for our family, easy to train and eager to please. Casey would never pass up the opportunity fetch any kind of ball and would have played for hours if allowed to.

Once she joined our family, it was apparent things would never be the same. We would be “dog people” forever! It only seemed right that we get another GSD to be a little brother to Casey, so a little over a year later we picked up Bailey. He was related to Casey, but from another litter with the same mom and dad. They were great together and gave us many years of happiness.

Sadly, we lost Casey too soon, in 2010. The loss was devastating, as any pet owner knows, and her passing prompted the start of volunteer work with Southeast German Shepherd Rescue. Since then, rescue work has become a large part of our lives.

The happiness that she gave us led to the founding of Casey’s Legacy, Inc. and the hope of helping others to enjoy life with their dogs.

John Harvey, president and Trainer

Like many trainers, John’s passion for dogs and training started at a young age with family pets. His first real experience was fostering and training Dobermans in the late 1980s. Training techniques and methods have changed significantly since then and John has studied, practiced and trained professionally since 2015 utilizing a number of different methods. The experience of managing a major national training company’s franchise locally also helped further his understanding of the dog training business, as well as the needs of the rescue community where he has spent countless hours volunteering his training skills. The formation of Casey’s Legacy, Inc. is a way for John to help people and dogs find the best life possible.

Just like people, no two dogs are exactly alike, so John believes that training should to be tailored to both the dog’s needs and the owner’s needs and capabilities. Basic training is a great way to build a bond through communication and understanding between dog and owner. John is dedicated to helping owners show the leadership their dog(s) need to lead healthy, happy lives as part of the family.

Taryn Page, Secretary and Trainer

Taryn Page’s love of all animals started when she was very young. Through working with horses and owning dogs she learned the importance of training to help each animal live their best life possible. She really enjoyed being able to take her dogs with her everywhere she went and being able to do this required basic training and socialization. In 2016 she and her husband began fostering dogs with Carolina PAWS, and shortly after that met John the summer of 2018 when they needed training help for a foster dog, a German Shepard named Zea. Taryn immediately latched on to John’s training methods, and felt so fortunate to have him as a mentor. Throughout the years they have helped several troubled dogs make it into permanent homes. Taryn is a natural born teacher (and is a full-time science teacher), and in her spare time she enjoys training her dogs and her foster dogs, and teaching others how to train their dogs. She believes the basics are essential to having a happy and healthy dog.
